Artificial Intelligence: FANAF to Bring African Insurance Leaders Together in Casablanca

[post-views]

AI is becoming a top management issue

Entitled “Leading Transformation in the Age of Artificial Intelligence: Governance, Transition and Leadership in Insurance Companies,” the seminar is aimed in particular at Chief Executive Officers, Deputy CEOs and Board Members.

FANAF’s objective is to move beyond the purely technological dimension of artificial intelligence. The central issue is now governance: how can insurers create value through AI while maintaining control over risks, data, processes and decision-making?

The deployment of AI solutions within insurance companies raises a number of issues that fall directly within the scope of corporate governance, including data quality and security, internal controls, risk management, accountability in decision-making and the alignment of technology investments with corporate strategy.

For FANAF, AI should therefore be viewed as a strategic issue for senior management, rather than simply as an IT project.

Building an appropriate AI governance framework

Over the course of three days, participants will examine how AI governance can be integrated into existing risk management and internal control frameworks.

The stated objective is to provide executives with a framework capable of supporting technological transformation while ensuring that it remains properly controlled. FANAF also emphasizes the importance of developing a measurable transformation roadmap aligned with existing risk management mechanisms.

This approach reflects a significant shift in the way artificial intelligence is being addressed within the insurance industry. The challenge is no longer simply to identify potential AI applications, but to determine the conditions required to deploy them responsibly and in a manner consistent with the sector’s governance requirements.

A transformation affecting the entire insurance value chain

Artificial intelligence can play a role across numerous areas of insurance activity, including the automation of certain operations, data analysis, the detection of unusual behaviors or claims, customer service, process optimization and decision support.

However, the ability of AI systems to process vast amounts of data at high speed also creates new requirements in terms of oversight and control. For insurers, the pursuit of operational performance must therefore go hand in hand with careful consideration of data reliability, human supervision and the traceability of decisions.

The issue is particularly strategic for African insurance markets, where companies are simultaneously seeking to accelerate digital transformation, improve operational efficiency and develop new services adapted to local market needs.

Casablanca, a strategic meeting point for the African insurance industry

Through this seminar, FANAF is continuing its efforts to make training and the exchange of expertise key drivers of transformation within the African insurance industry.

The choice of Casablanca also highlights Morocco’s growing importance as a hub for professional exchanges in insurance and financial services across Africa. FANAF regularly organizes seminars for insurance executives and professionals addressing major challenges facing the industry’s transformation.

Ultimately, the meeting raises a question that goes far beyond technology itself: as AI begins to influence decisions within the insurance industry, who should be accountable for those decisions, and under what rules?

For African insurers, the challenge will be to turn the potential of artificial intelligence into a strategic advantage while preserving the fundamentals of the insurance business: risk management, trust, policyholder protection and institutional soundness.
